The Basics of Poker
In the game of Poker, the dealer’s button (also known as buck or dealer button) indicates the nominal dealer of the hand. All betting takes place after the dealer has put the dealer button on the table. Then, the dealer deals each hand clockwise. During the process of dealing a hand, the dealer must offer a shuffled pack to the next player, if he wants to cut. Unlike in blackjack, the dealer’s button is usually a white plastic disk that indicates the nominal dealer.
The game of Poker is played around an oval or circular table, with each player being dealt a hand. Generally, the initial dealer must select a card from the shuffled deck. The highest card is designated as the dealer’s hand. A player may tie if his or her hand is higher than the dealer’s. If a tie occurs, the initial dealer shuffles the deck and cuts it to advance to the next step.
After a round, the bets are collected into a pot. This pot contains the winnings of all the rounds. This central pot is called the “pot”.
